SheBaa 1992-1997Thank you Sheba for introducing me to the amazing breed of the Border Collie. You will be forever cherished in my heart. Sheba: 1992-1997.

Nestled in the beautiful setting of the Appalachian Mountains in northeastern Pennsylvania, you will find myself, my family and our Border Collies. They are our confidants, offering never ending, selfless companionship and compassion.

Their versatility has given us the opportunity to be involved in various competitive canine sports. My children and I actively train and participate in dog obedience competitions. Earning obedience titles has been a rewarding experience for our family and our dogs. I am very proud of my children, who started training and competing in the obedience ring at the ages of 10 and 12.

Training in agility has proven that teamwork and stamina are an absolute must. All of our dogs have a level of stamina that goes beyond our expectations. The dogs are such excellent team players -- they wait so patiently while we try desperately to keep up with them while moving so quickly through the obstacles.

The dogs and my dear friend Cheryl Williams are doing an excellent job teaching me how to work with sheep. Herding sheep with my dogs is magical. Watching the dogs move around the sheep is like poetry in motion. If you choose just one competitive activity for your Border Collie, herding would be at the top of the list, since it utilizes their specialized instincts. It will give you a better understanding of what motivates your dog and how to best control unruly behavior. Your dog will also appreciate the time you spend with them having such great fun. Border Collies were bred to herd sheep.

Highly biddable, loving and trusting personalities has earned our dogs recognition from Therapy Dog International. Children, dogs, grand mom and myself find nothing more rewarding than going to visit those who have been afflicted with debilitating illnesses. If we never do anything more with our dogs, this would be what we would choose to do. Being able to put a smile on the face of a child, or an elderly or ill person brings us all so much joy. It is our pleasure to share the compassion of our dogs with so many others.

We are very proud and blessed to have such beautiful creatures in our lives.

"An animal, especially a dog, is possibly the purest experience you can have."
- Audrey Hepburn
